Following on from the disappointing defeat to Newcastle United, Southampton took a valuable Premier League point from Watford in Tuesday evening’s clash at Vicarage Road.

Striker Shane Long went into the top flight history books with his goal 7.69 seconds into the game as the 32-year-old grabbed his fourth goal of the season, but despite our best efforts, the hosts managed to hit back in the 90th minute to tie the scores up.

A six point gap to Cardiff City in the relegation zone should be more than enough thought.

Statistics website Whoscored had us edge the player ratings on the night and Academy graduate James Ward-Prowse took their star man award with a score of 7.40 to lift Man of the Match.

Completing the top five best performers were Maya Yoshida (7.30), Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (7.28), Shane Long (7.21) and Nathan Redmond (6.97).

Barring a complete meltdown now, that should be Premier League survival secured so plans for next season and significant improvement can now be put into place.
