After a lengthy lull given how the fixture list played out across March, including the international break disruption, Southampton continued where they left off and backed up our Tottenham Hotspur win with victory over Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday.

It was a tight game with few real chances, but Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg made his effort count in the 53rd minute to give us all three points on the day.

Statistics website Whoscored gave our goal scorer their top player rating with a score of 7.62 for his efforts.

Completing the top five best performers in their eyes were Oriol Romeu (7.51), Nathan Redmond (7.31), Jan Bednarek (7.30) and Maya Yoshida (6.95).

With the victory sending us five points clear of the dropzone and we are now tied with Brighton and Burnley on 33 points and that was all that mattered really.

With Danny Ings getting just over an hour under his belt it should do him the world of good as well.
