Friday evening’s Premier League clash saw Southampton welcome title challengers Liverpool to St Mary’s Stadium for the televised game.

An early Shane Long effort in the ninth minute gave fans hope we could take an unexpected but highly useful victory over Jurgen Klopp’s in form side, but sadly it wasn’t to be as they levelled just before the half time break and then added two goals inside of the final ten minutes to take the point.

With manager Ralph Hasenhuttl taking the positives from the showing, it was a mixed bag of player ratings from statistics website Whoscored.

They had Jannik Vestergaard as top of the pile and the only player with a seven rating – 7.52, and the next, best of the rest, were Oriol Romeu (6.89), Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (6.87), Shane Long (6.84) and Ryan Bertrand (6.79).

Everyone knew this was going to be a difficult game to get something from given their form, so take the positives and onto the next one as we only have to maintain our advantage on those below us – anything more at this stage would be a bonus.
