21 y/o Saints ace who vows to ‘work very hard’ shows signs of immense maturity – Opinion

|

Moussa Djenepo joined Southampton as a relative unknown from Standard Liege this summer, yet in under 10 games with the Saints, the winger has already left his mark.

Goals against Brighton and Sheffield United, the latter of which was a stunning solo strike that sealed Southampton only the last win in the Premier League, have seen the Mali international become an instant fan favourite on the south coast. Yet it hasn’t all been perfect.

Injuries have kept the 21-year-old out on the sidelines in recent weeks, with Djenepo missing the past three games for the Saints as reported by the club’s official website, yet despite the winger’s absence from the pitch, the youngster is still making an impression off it.

A recent Instagram post from the attacker sees Djenepo making a promise to supporters to ‘work very hard to return to the field’ as well as to ‘give pleasure to my faithful fans who have always supported me’.

Indeed, these words from a player of only 21 years of age paint a picture as to the maturity Djenepo posses and how vital the Saints have missed this almost senior-like figure on the pitch in recent weeks.

It is no surprise to see that Southampton have underperformed with Djenepo out of the squad due to injury, with Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side losing their previous two Premier League games against Bournemouth and Tottenham, both fixtures the winger missed.

With no date set for the winger’s return from injury, Southampton supporters will be hoping to see the attacker back in action sooner rather than later as the club heads into an important part of the season with fixtures against Chelsea, Leicester City and Manchester City all taking place this month.

Djenepo has been a surprise package for the Saints this season, and his maturity on and off the pitch, as well as his ability in the XI, has been sorely missed in recent weeks.
