Although Sam Gallagher remained on the bench in last night’s Premier League clash against Crystal Palace, having worked his way into manager Ralph Hasenhuttl’s plans across the month of January as he made two appearances, it was being reported yesterday that we were actively knocking back interest in the Academy graduate as the transfer window comes to an end later this evening.

With the 23-year-old spending time away from the club in recent seasons on loan spells with Birmingham City, Blackburn Rovers and MK Dons, reports on Wednesday had indicated that Hull City, Nottingham Forest and Bristol City had made overtures for the lad, but Hasenhuttl is determined to keep him with us as an option for the second half of the campaign.

Having let Manolo Gabbiadini leave and speculation rife that Charlie Austin could follow before tonight’s deadline slamming shut, plenty of fans wondered if Gallagher would get the chance to impress and it appears he’s at least in the mix now.

We’re definitely turning back to youth and that’s no bad thing with the way we develop youngsters.
