With the return of proper football after the November lull in fixtures, Southampton enjoyed a far better day on Saturday as we made the trip to the Emirates Stadium to face off against Unai Emery’s Arsenal side.
Arsenal certainly aren’t the force they used to be, and like us, they are having their own struggles this year but a far improved and more committed showing by the side saw us almost take the three points on offer – and had we, it wouldn’t have been undeserved.
Statistics website Whoscored seemed a little bit harsh in their ratings really, but goalscorer Danny Ings took Man of the Match with a rating of 7.45.
Completing the top five best performers in their eyes were James Ward-Prowse (7.34), Nathan Redmond (7.18), Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (7.12) and Ryan Bertrand (7.03).
It should’ve been a win really, but we can certainly take the confidence and the positives but that has to be the baseline level of performance now to turn our season around.
