Wednesday evening’s Premier League action gave Southampton a St Mary’s Stadium based bottom of the table battle with fellow strugglers Fulham.
Having lost back to back games against Cardiff City and Arsenal, this was a quintessential ‘must win’ tie and goals from midfielder’s Oriol Romeu and James Ward-Prowse gave us all three points in a 2-0 victory, to see us end the night outside of the relegation zone.
Statistics website Whoscored’s player ratings reflected the performance fans would’ve seen really.
27-year-old Romeu took their star man award with a score of 8.54 but he was closely followed by fellow goalscorer JWP who picked up 8.11 for his efforts.
Completing the top five best performers in their eyes were Jan Bednarek (7.80), Maya Yoshida (7.57) and goalkeeper Angus Gunn (7.44).
Special mentions for Yan Valery and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg who also received seven-plus ratings for their own efforts across the 90 minutes.
Can we make it an unlikely return to back to back wins with a trip to Old Trafford and Manchester United this coming Saturday?
