Thursday clash between Southampton and West Ham United at St Mary’s Stadium didn’t exactly go to plan for manager Ralph Hasenhuttl.

Nathan Redmond opened the scoring for us five minutes after the halftime restart, but Felipe Anderson hit a speedy brace for the visitors to secure them a 2-1 victory on the day.

Hasenhuttl will take the positives, but he certainly didn’t pull many punches about the manner of our defending on the day but everyone knows we’ll have ups and downs as he continues looking to turn the camp around.

A strong defensive performance from midfielder Oriol Romeu saw him take statistics website Whoscored’s top rating with 7.53 for his efforts on the day.

Completing the top five best performers for us were Redmond (7.51), Matt Targett (7.22), Mario Lemina (7.11) and Jannik Vestergaard (6.98) but we’ll certainly be looking for far better than that in the future, as we’ve already shown improvements.

As the gaffer alluded to, maybe our previous efforts caught up with us in this one.
