Having got back to winning ways in the last Premier League clash against Fulham to lift ourselves out of the relegation zone, Southampton turned their attentions to a tough clash at Old Trafford against Manchester United.

Manager Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side put in a stellar performance and Academy graduate Yan Valery opened the scoring in the 26th minute with a fantastic effort. United hit back hard to take a 2-1 lead but James Ward-Prowse continued his own improvement to tie the scores up again with a great set piece.

Romelu Lukaku stole it for them with two minutes remaining and with the matchday referee rejecting any penalty appeal we had, typically he gave their’s but Paul Pogba saw his effort saved.

Statistics website Whoscored did give the standout match ratings to the hosts as you’d expect, but our scores were more consistent given our efforts and we had two additional players with seven ratings compared to them.

Oriol Romeu took Man of the Match with a score of 7.33, and he was followed by JWP (7.12), Angus Gunn (7.11), Valery (7.11) and Jannik Vestergaard (6.90).

Take the positives and move on as we remain outside of the dropzone.
