Lots of Southampton fans have been looking back fondly at our promotion party at St Mary’s in 2012.
After seven years of hurt, we secured our passage back into the Premier League after our 4-0 victory over Coventry City.
Goals from Billy Sharp, Jose Fonte, Jos Hooiveld and Adam Lallana completed what was a perfect afternoon for us on the South Coast, with BBC Solent Sport showcasing the post-match pitch invasion on Twitter as Tuesday marked the eighth anniversary of the famous day.
Is Nigel Adkins one of the best managers in our history?
Yes
No
After two relegations in the space of four years, we achieved back-to-back promotions in 2011 and 2012 to get us back where we rightfully belong.
Predicably, supporters were quick to respond on social media of their best recollections from the afternoon’s action. One fan said that it is “a day I will never forget”, while another wanted to go back in time to those glory days.
Nigel…….. gave us as saints fans the best times I’ve witnessed supporting saints in my 33 years of age. He will go down a my favourite saints manager EVER! I hope to god one day I see him back ❤️ #WeMarchOn
