Nigel Adkins believes that our last two draws, especially the Arsenal point, show just how far this squad has come over the last 6 months.

Speaking to saintsfc following the 1-1 draw, the gaffer said he was delighted with the work ethic of the team again as we matched Arsenal across the park to lift us out of the relegation zone.

‘There’s been a growing maturity about ourselves and when you look at the start of the campaign to where we are now we have come a hell of a long way. It’s only two defeats in ten that we’ve had and I thought we were very good again today. Tactically I thought we were spot on, we had a good defensive shape. Arsenal have been spanking teams for fun and they’ve got massive threats which we’ve nullified.’

After shuffling the team around again, Adkins said it’s his job to make decision and today he thinks they were justified.

‘Artur’s been very impressive in training, his attitude has been outstanding so I’ve given him the opportunity today. Everyone knows how much I like Kelvin, but I look at Jack Cork as well who got man of the match and what a great job he did in there. Jack and Luke I thought were outstanding. Jose and Maya in defence have kept Walcott very, very quiet and when we got the ball we moved it around well.’

I think if most fans were honest we’d have certainly taken two points from the last two games and whilst our next run of fixtures aren’t exactly the easiest again, there are wins available in there if we keep performing at our best, so it’s all to play for.
