Nigel Adkins praised his side after they came from behind, with 10 men to earn a point at Reading.

Steve De Ridder came off the bench to equalise for the league leaders, and Adkins praised the Belgian’s impact.

Speaking to Saints Player, he said: ‘We showed great character and desire and Steve De Ridder came off the bench and scored a great goal for us which gave us a bit of an impact which is what we’re after from the guys off the bench.

‘We brought Steve in and it’s like Guly Do Prado when he came here last year – it takes a little while to adjust to how we want to do thing.’

The 24-year-old came to Hampshire in July this year from Dutch side De Graafschap and has started to show Southampton fans what he’s capable of.

‘He’s a bottle of pop. He’s got loads of energy and he’s going to go and create something.

‘We are really pleased about that and he’s settling in very well.’
