Nigel Adkins has said that Southampton will find the balance between playing good football and picking up points in the Premiership.

Speaking to saintsfc as we prepare for the West Ham game, Adkins said he wouldn’t compromise on our principles and on our style of play, what we needed to do was cut out the errors that have been costing us goals and he also said that during the international break a full assessment on our start to the season had been done, so he’s expecting more consistent performances from the players now things have been highglighted.

‘We want to promote the Southampton way, but it’s got to be winning football as well. We’re trying to marry everything up but it’s a fine line, we’ve got to win games, but we can’t sacrifice the principles and the vision. It’s a work in progress.’

Speaking more specifically about the work that has been done during the international break, Adkins added.

‘The international break has been a good opportunity to reflect and look back on what we’ve done – who we’ve played, how we’ve played, the goals we scored, the goals we’ve conceded and whether we’re keeping ourselves focused on what we want to achieve. You’re always learning, it’s important you do that.’
