Many Southampton fans have been singing the praise of former Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino after his recent comments regarding his tenure on the South Coast.
The Argentinian tactician spent 18 months at St Mary’s before eventually moving on to Tottenham Hotspur in 2014, where it is fair to say that his reputation as a manager has excelled, that we all knew he had.
From 60 games in charge of Southampton, he managed to accumulate a points-per-game average of 1.45, winning 23 matches, drawing 18 and losing 19 while scoring 87 goals and accumulating 87 points, as per TransferMarkt.
Would you bring Mauricio Pochettino back to Southampton?
Yes
No
Pochettino spoke out about his time with us, telling Guillem Balague’s Talking Football (cited by The Athletic) that his side changed the landscape of football during the 2013/14 campaign, and that club president Nicola Cortese gave us what we needed to “create something unique” in English football.
With this in mind, supporters were in agreement and loved what Pochettino said and poured their feelings out for him on social media. One fan said that it was “amazing times” under his direction, while another “couldn’t agree more”, adding that the combination of him and Cortese was the best we’ve had for years and years.
Love Poch, but he also inherited a decent @TheNigelAdkins Saints side and academy.

Couldn’t agree more, best manager and president we’ve had for years and years

As soon as NC left it meant a long term downward slide. Quite sad so many didn’t give him the thanks he deserved. Many fell for a narrative that wasn’t entirely accurate.

#saintsfc could have been that #lcfc side that shocked the World to win the title if Cortese had stayed. Champions League football at St.Mary’s would have almost certainly happened if he’d stuck around

If we kept him and Nicola Cortese we’d have been the original Leicester Story #Saintsfc https://t.co/kKf9lP7NMA

Amazing times. I doubt we’ll see football as good as that for a long time. What a fantastic few years under Adkins / Poch / Koeman. That Puel appt was a disaster. https://t.co/xE4zuClkvg

Excellent manager who I’ll always remember fondly. Shame he couldn’t stay for longer. #SaintsFC https://t.co/te0bzSFHRE
