Plenty of Southampton fans have been showering striker Shane Long with praise after they looked back on our 1-0 victory against Liverpool at Anfield in 2017.
The victory meant that Claude Puel’s side advanced to the EFL Cup final after a deserved victory over two legs against the Reds, after beating them by the same scoreline at St Mary’s in the first encounter.
It was a game in which Liverpool dominated in terms of possession but we had our chances in the game through Dusan Tadic and Steve Davis.
Will Shane Long go down as a Southampton legend?
Yes
No
However, Jurgen Klopp’s side were unable to break us down and in the first minute of second-half stoppage time, Shane Long broke through and slotted past Loris Karius to send the travelling Saints wild behind the goal.
Because of this, supporters were complimentary towards Long and made their feelings clear on social media. One fan wanted the club to “announce his new contract”, while another described him as an “underrated team player”.

Absolutely incredible work rate the guy has. It amazes me how people moaned at his transfer fee, think we can safely say it was a bargain now.
