The Team was a good mix of young and first team with a trialist as well. In the first game since returning from Switzerland Saints ended up winning a competitive tussle with the Conference South team.

The first serious effort after a slow start came from Mills . A swinging free-kick which was fumbled by the keeper but collected at the second attempt under pressure.

Connolly looked sharp and showed up well and was foiled at the near post by keeper Jordan.

After half an hour Anthony Pulis collected what looked like a dislocated shoulder. After a few minutes attention he was replaced by Ben Reeves as he was taken off.

Generally the Saints coped well with the hosts attacks though Dean McDonaldwas starting to show with a number of good runs.

As half-time approached Mills was thwarted when a last ditch block was made as he was about to pull the trigger.

HT 0-0

Bothe goalkeepers were subbed for the start of the second half. This started in a livelier fashion to the first and Mills fired over with McGlashen also being denied a clear shot.

McGlashan was involved in a collision with the keeper but after a quick stop was soon back on his feet.

Substitutions then began to be made and the game died down a touch. The breakthrough for Saints finally came in the 81st minute. Racine fired in a goalbound header which was blocked only for Lee Barnard to fire the rebound home from 12 yards.

Two more substitutions five minutes from time to see time out were made. Doble and Argent comiong on for Connolly and Butterfield. The remaining time was comfortably seen out and Saints ended up winning 1-0.

From first reports trialist McGlashan has done his claim for a contract no harm as the young winger showed up well.
