The revolution that was recently begun by Southampton director of football Sir Clive Woodward developed further today by the addition of Sports Medicine expert Andy Barr who joins from Premiership outfit Bolton Wanderers.

It has been well documented that Bolton manager is keen to implement the latest advances in sporting technology into his management so it is clear that Barr joins Saints with a lot of experience.

Barr told the Saints official website his opinion on former colleague Allardyce: –

‘Sam Allardyce is very forward-thinking and put in place some wonderful things and I cannot thank him enough for all he did
for me.’

Barr will now work with the Saints medical staff to try and get the players to the peak of their fitness and try to get the best out of them on the pitch. He is also eager to start working with Sir Clive Woodward.

He told Saintsfc.co.uk:-

‘Clive did a great job with the England Rugby World Cup team, setting up a fantastic infrastructure and he is putting
in place similar ideas here.’

The move to bring in Barr is the latest in a number of changes to the backroom staff after the departure of long serving physio Jim Joyce.

Woodward, has evidently been keen to implement his own ideas into the running of the club, the club recently purchased a 1.25m training dome with his recommendation. It will be interesting to see whether Woodward’s approach to sports technology will bring out the same excellent results for Saints as it did for the 2003 England Rugby World Cup winning team.
