Last season`s player of the season Chris Baird is still unsure where he will be at the start of the new season.

The Northern Ireland international defender handed in a transfer request last month, after being the subject of a bid from Fulham, now managed by his former international manager Lawrie Sanchez. He told the Daily Echo that “Every player wants to play in the Premiership.”

Baird did however concede that “If things don’t materialise, I am happy here and I will always give 100 per cent.”

Saints manager George Burley has remained bullish about the move though and maintains that the defender will only be allowed to leave if “we feel it’s right.”
