Saints 18-year-old stopper Bartosz Bialkowski injury has been discovered to be even worse than expected.

Bialkowski had been ruled out for the remainder of this season after picking up a cruciate knee injury, when he landed awkwardly in the FA Cup game against Newcastle.

After surgery it was discovered he had suffered damage to his anterior cruciate ligament which will see him sidelined until at least September, meaning he’ll also miss the start of next season.

The young Pole had been exceptional since joining Saints in January. Luckily we do have a quality back up in Paul Smith and he’ll now get an extended chance in the first team.

George Burley recently brought in experienced keeper Kevin Miller as short term cover for Smith.
