England left back Ryan Bertrand has said he has no issues going forward with a more central role in defence following manager Ronald Koeman deploying a back three in last night’s two nil victory over Watford.

Speaking to saintsfc in his after game interviews with Shane Long and Dusan Tadic hitting the goals to give us a first win since Boxing Day and Arsenal, Bertrand said he felt pretty comfortable in the new set up and would have no issues being used like that again in the future if needs be.

‘Obviously it`s good to win, regardless of the situation.’

Turning out alongside Jose Fonte and Virgil van Dijk with Matt Targett and Cedric playing as wing backs, he went on to say.

‘It was alright. It was left of the three at the back. We have a good understanding of each other and that was a new position but it wasn`t too bad, it worked tonight. There was a bit more central duties to do but then, other than that, when we`re on the ball I`m in my left back domain anyway. It`s not too bad to pick the right passes from there.’

With the gaffer talking about two ‘big’ matches this week and with the hoped for result against Watford, it’s now onto West Bromwich Albion at St Mary’s as well this weekend.

‘It`s good to get that win under our belts. It was much needed against difficult opposition. I think the boys done very well, but we`re not getting carried away yet, there`s still plenty of football to play this season and hopefully we can keep that consistency. Every game is a big game, not this week in particular. We`re just going to recover, start focusing on Saturday and go out and take it game by game, trying to get as good a result as we can.’
