Southampton are set to continue talks with striker Leon Best.

Best scored his first goal in Southampton colours on Saturday in the 6-0 away win to Wolves.

The goal capped off an impressive season where he has scored for fun in League One with Bournemouth and Yeovil.

Saints gaffer Burley told the Echo: ‘We’ve been talking to Leon for the last couple of months and we’re not a million miles away from agreeing a deal, but that will probably wait until the end of the season.

‘I’ve spoken to Leon, he wants to stay at Southampton. It’s just a case of getting the right deal for both parties’.

Best’s contract ends in the summer and has already been linked with a whole host of clubs including former sides Bournemouth and Yeovil as well as Coventry, Oldham, Swindon and Nottingham Forest.
