Sofiane Boufal could end his time at the club by the end of the week, according to L’Equipe.

They claim the attacker is set to join French outfit Nice. The article states the club is in the process of being purchased by British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe, but have identified the Morocco international as a key target.

They believe the club is in advanced negotiations and expect to wrap up the deal in the near future.

The 25-year-old joined Southampton from Lille in 2016, but spent last season on loan at La Liga side Celta Vigo. He was afforded game time during his spell away from St Mary’s, where he made 35 league appearances.

In 50 Premier League matches for The Saints the winger managed to score three goals and he matched that total last season while playing in Spain, he also provided four assists.

Despite his best efforts, it was looking difficult for him to force his way back into the first-team at Southampton. Last year the club signed Mohamed Elyounoussi for £16.2million, and this summer saw the arrival of Moussa Djenepo, both of whom play in Boufal’s position.

The Moroccan may feel it is the right time to leave the south coast and join a side where he will be given more opportunities to play.
