Birmingham to be deducted points?

City could face a Football League charge for failing to fufil a fixture if the match is not played.

If found guilty by a disciplinary commission, there is the possibility of the club being fined or even having points deducted.

Birmingham called in a soil expert to determine the state of the surface and a final decision is unlikely to be taken on the game until Friday but the strong indications are Birmingham are fighting a losing battle to stage the fixture.

The surface was dug up after last weekend’s FA Cup third round tie with Newcastle and work began on laying the pitch – the ‘spare’ one for the new Wembley Stadium – on Sunday.

Football League spokesman John Nagle said: ‘The Football League is in discussions with Birmingham regarding the playing of this fixture and a final decision will be made in due course.’

Saints are currently gaining points on The Blues, now only 8 points off of Birmingham and top of the Coca Cola Championship. But if they are to be deducted points this will bring us closer to the automatic promotion spots. If Saints win tommorow and Birmingham lose or their game does not go ahead then we can go 5 points adrift.

Saints were 13 points adrift of top spot and City before the Christmas fixtures and have gained points on them well.
