The future of Southampton Academy graduate Sam Gallagher has long been a feature on the summer transfer rumour mill at the club and Blackburn Rovers have already been the likely side in pole position for his capture.

The 23-year-old really began making a name for himself at Ewood Park during a loan spell back in the 2016/17 campaign and although his spell at Birmingham City in 2017/18 didn’t quite go as well in terms of his goalscoring return, he didn’t really do his potential any harm.

With six appearances to his name last season, and five coming under new manager Ralph Hasenhuttl following his arrival, it seems we are likely to move him on this year as our Austrian gaffer looks to reshape the first team squad and the vast majority of fans would appear to simply wish him well and hope that we have a decent sell on clause included given the expectation for his continued development.

Over the weekend Sky Sports reported that talks were now ongoing between Southampton and Blackburn over a deal and although other clubs had an interest, they are the only side to firm up their enquiry and open up formal discussions.

I can imagine this one would go through pretty quickly really.
