Luke Shaw, Morgan Schneiderlin, Adam Lallana, Mauricio Pochettino, and our tea lady have all been linked with moves away from the club this summer with various media outlets being categorical that deals have been done and moves agreed, and all the other nonsensical stuff that sells papers these days because accuracy no longer seems important.

In light of this, Executive Director Les Reed has given a statement to the press and it can be read in full by clicking here, but in short I think the polite way of summing up his statement and those recent reports is probably epitomised by the word bull……

‘Currently I am responsible for transfers, I’m responsible for contract negotiations and all of those board level matters that the club is involved in. I work very closely with Mauricio. I think there’s a lot of misinformation out there that needs clearing up.’

Reed goes on to say that he speaks to our gaffer every day, and often for ‘several’ hours as they discuss the future and the summer.

‘The first point I’d like to make is that, with regards to Mauricio’s contract negotiations, both Mauricio and myself are very happy with the way we are approaching it at the moment.’

Reed says hopefully his statement will clear this up once and for all, because the gaffer is asked the same questions every week about his future, and despite having answered, the questions keep returning.

‘We talk every day. We are talking about everything to do with the future – planning, pre season planning, the transfer strategy. No player will be brought into this club or leave without Mauricio and I discussing it, and his agreement. We talk about that on a daily basis, and we are planning for the future and for the long term future.’

Reed goes on to say that at the moment the club would dearly love to just focus on our remaining games instead of all the press guff, and that is what they are doing so the details of any contract talks will be ‘picked up’ in the summer when the season is over.

‘The second point I’d like to clear up is speculation in the press about our players. As we stand, there have been no enquiries and we have had no bids and we have had no offers for any of our players. That is accurate, that is the truth.’

Reed goes on to say that the reports suggesting deals are close are ‘totally misinformed, misleading and are not true.’

Basically, what many of us sadly now expect from the press.

He furthers the point by saying that with the above obviously being true, therefore no player has been given permission to talk to another club, so claims that some players are ‘in the process of negotiating stellar transfer fees or contracts are absolutely misinformed.’

As has been the line for a while now, there is no fire sale, no mass panic, and we aren’t interested in dismantling the squad given how well it has done this campaign.

‘No club has been given permission to talk to any of our players. That will remain so. As far as the policy is concerned, we’ve had a great season. We want to build on that, and improve the squad going forward. We want to retain the players we’ve got, they are all contracted. They all have existing contracts and we intend for them to honour those contracts. Any enquiries we get will probably be met with a ‘no – not for sale.’
