Burley Eyes One More

After watching his side draw their latest fixture 1-1 against Preston George Burley revealed that there may be more additions to the squad before the transfer window closes.

As I said in my Preston match report Saints seem to lack a cutting edge, I think that this possibly has something to do with the make up of the centre of midfield. Both Jermaine Wright and John Viafara are both predominantly defensively minded players and I think that a player with more attacking flair needs to come in.

Burley told the Daily Echo:

‘I don’t think the balance in midfield is quite right at the moment.’

‘It’s one area we are looking at to strengthen the squad before the end of the window.’

Youngsters Adam Lallana and Andy Surman started the game on Wednesday night and on Saturday but Burley realizes that he cannot rely solely on youngsters.

‘Two games a week was maybe a lot for one or two of the youngsters but they gained experience from playing in that league.’ (Speaking to Daily Echo)

With little time left in the window and with Saints having spent over 7 million pounds in the close season already it will be interesting to see who Burley goes for.

Saints have been linked with Derby County pair Tommy Smith and Inigo Idiakez, it remains to be seen whether Derby would be prepared to sell should Saints table an offer.
