With the well publicized off field antics at Southampton taking over headlines, George Burley has today called a Press Conference to make his views known about his ambitions for the club next season.
Burley believes that he now has the tools to put the club back where it belongs in the Premier League. He highlighted the fact that the Saints’ academy is one of the best in the country having produced players such as Nathan Dyer and Theo Walcott. He believes that with this at Southampton’s disposal then promotion is a realistic aim.
Burley told the official website :

‘I am very optimistic for the new campaign and I really believe we can make the top six and win promotion.’

Burley has also insisted that he will be staying at Southampton for the foreseeable future and has no plans to leave the club despite being linked to a number of managerial vacancies at other clubs.

Burley has also taken time to explain the mass exodus of players from the club when he arrived but has insisted that he will be looking to strengthen the squad this summer.

He told saintsfc.co.uk:

‘Some players wanted to leave and we let something like 17
go in order to build for the future.’

‘Letting so many players go has given us a war chest and space
in the squad to bring in new players now.’

If all goes Burley’s way it looks like it will be an interesting summer and an exciting season ahead.
