Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino has said that he’s expecting this weekend’s clash with Burnley to be an incredibly tight affair.

We make the trip to Turf Moor with Burnley being winless in the last ten league games, but the low scoring affairs have seen them pick up some good draws and they remain healthy in the top half of the table.

Southampton’s own form is well documented, as is our goalscoring issues, and Pellegrino felt that the side had to learn from the encounter earlier in the season where we lost one nil with them scoring from their only effort on target.

Speaking to saintsfc as he met with the media to preview the game, the Argentine explained.

‘Burnley will be a really tight game, I would imagine. It`s a really difficult game. It is a team who won a lot of points in the first part of the season and now they have not won in a long period of time, but at home they are really strong because they do not concede too much.’

He added.

‘We can use the home game as experience, which was really close with not many chances. Then towards the end we dominated, created chances but couldn`t score. We have been working on how to approach this type of challenge and we will try to do our best.’

With four of our next five league encounters being on our travels – six out of seven if you include FA Cup games against West Brom and the upcoming Wigan tie – Pellegrino knew it was important that our away form came to the fore as we looked to pull out of the relegation zone.

‘I think mentally we have to be stronger. Instead of the crowd helping you, they will be against you. All the decisions that we make can influence the referee and the crowd, so we have to be really focused. We have to be stronger in all different aspects, but I think we are ready.’
