31-year-old Southampton and Japanese centre-half, Maya Yoshida, needs no introduction at St Mary’s following his long association with the club after his arrival from VVV Venlo back in August 2012.
Having arrived for a snip £2.5million all those years ago, Yoshida has established himself as a modern day legend with well over 150 appearances to his name, and so far in the 2019/20 campaign, he’s featured six times for Austrian manager Ralph Hasenhuttl. In recent weeks he’s been a regular member of the starting XI, and despite the 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, he came in for plenty of praise from the fans on social media.

With Yoshida’s deal slowly coming to an end, for plenty in the fanbase they feel he’s already shown enough to see the club and Hasenhuttl hang him a new extension, as he has plenty of years left in his legs yet.
He deserves an extension definitely for his commitment, passion and dedication, however much of a part he plays next season. He's Southampton through and through, will be a sad day when he leaves. #saintsfc https://t.co/LLSWRyr2IO

Yoshida and Bednarek have had stormers here but we just don’t break teams down, too quick to slow down the play in the opposition half
Boufal and Redmond look dangerous but as per usual we are toothless centrally#saintsfc

I couldn’t agree more! I can’t understand why he keeps being left out – when he does play the difference really shows.

Even if we are pivoting to youth more under the new gaffer, there’s still a place for experience and Yoshida never fails to give his all, it’s why he’s so liked.
