Centre half Steven Caulker has now ended his loan spell with Southampton and returned to Queens Park Rangers.

Having linked up with us on a season long loan spell at the end of July, he made his first appearance one week later in our two nil victory over Vitesse in the Europa League.

His first Premier League appearance came in the scoreless draw with Watford, and he played in both games against FC Midtjylland.

The final appearance came against Liverpool at St Mary’s in December.

With hugely limited game time and the loan spell not working out as originally intended, the deal has been cancelled and he heads back to them either to source another loan or compete for a first team spot.

Update – I’ve just noticed Caulker has signed for Liverpool on loan.

“We spoke about his situation yesterday evening. Steven came in in the summer before we signed Virgil van Dijk because we had long-term injuries and he was a back-up. He didn’t play a lot and normally we have more defenders for that position. I am not to stop his opportunity to play for Liverpool.”
