Sunday’s clash against Newcastle United will be a real test for Southampton as to if they can maintain their impressive winning form over the past seven days, but the Saints won’t be wearing their usual strip.

Southampton confirmed on their official Twitter account that the Saints will be wearing a special all-red kit for their trip up to St. James Park on Sunday in an attempt to not clash with Newcastle’s white and black striped shirt.
Will Hasenhuttl go big on January signings?
Yes
No
Despite Southampton’s normal home shirt as well as their away jersey being kits you would expect not to clash with the Magpies, the club have taken the decision to change it for the game against Newcastle, and Saints supporters on social media were confused by the entire situation.
Here’s what Southampton fans had to say about the sudden kit change on Twitter, with lots of supporters puzzled as to why such a weird decision had been made when the club’s current selection of strips are seemingly fine…
Haha the classic ‘shove Hojbjerg in front of the cameras’ jobby – LOVE IT. Classic saints

Should always have a yellow away shirt. It’s part of our history and everyone loves us wearing yellow

3 kits and not one of them we can wear

Also.. why do we have a near totally useless third kit? And why, oh why, oh why does that home shirt have the black band? @UnderArmour – bring back the stripes for 2020 – front and rear. You frauds.

Supporters couldn’t wrap their head around the decision…
How is our home kit or even our 3rd kit going to clash with Newcastle’s primarily all black kit barr the stripes mental

If we had stuck with the yellow and blue away kit which everyone liked….then no problem

I think the red on your shirt and the black on ours would of been enough to avoid any colour clashes but what do I know

Why wasn’t red on the home kit instead of the gopping black bit.

A win would be crucial for Southampton this weekend after claiming back-to-back victories against Watford and Norwich City.
