25 year old Italian international defender Davide Astori’s agent has claimed Southampton have expressed an interest in the player.

He’s currently playing his trade with Cagliari, but he’s expected to make a move away from this club this window, and Saints are one of many options according to his representative.

Speaking to Sky Sports he said.

‘There are many clubs interested in Astori and among them I know there is also Southampton. Both the player and Cagliari have said they will evaluate it (an offer) together and decide what to do. This could happen even in January.’

Some outlet’s are suggesting we have already agreed personal terms with the player, but there is nothing to confirm this.

  • That would definitely put the icing on the Xmas cake for me if it came to fruition. Seems like a dream that we can contemplate such moves.

  • The web is now full of talk about Davide and our interest in him.I know we like to keep things close to our chest but this saga reminds me of the Gaston Ramirez one.

  • Ramirez and Buttner to be fair were a bit of a saga, but I’m not sure we were the engineers of that. I honestly know nothing about the player so have to trust our scouts, but I don’t like it when agents go public – serves to many purposes and rarely is it the potential suitors that it suits. Some have said Adkins has confirmed our interest, but I couldn’t find that.

  • Now the Italian club’s manager has mentioned that we are in talks as well. Maybe there is something in the rumours though that doesn’t guarantee a good outcome.

  • As said some were saying personal terms had been agreed, so it does make you wonder. If he comes in, who out, as surely he wouldn’t join to sit on the bench?

  • Think I saw somewhere he is a left footer. Maybe that might leave Maya in the cold but the way he has improved since first playing for us could be either. I think I would start with Jose as he is more longtime here but as you say who knows?
