Southampton were near the brink and Kelvin held back from leaving for as long as he could. It looked as though the club would fold and still Kelvin delayed hissearch for a new club.

Finally West Ham United came in for him and it looked ever more likely that he would be going to them. He even went training with them for three days as he considered his options.

Kelvin was so close to signing that it looked a certainty. A minor snag in the contract held things up and then Saints were able to make a move. Saints contacted Kelvin and the rest is history. Two hours later he had signed.

Kelvin is convinced he made the right decision and says,’Aster a game win, lose or draw, I’ll sit on my sofa with aching muscles and know I made the roght decision.’

‘This will be my first time at the new Wembley, but I went to Wembley with Luton years ago,’ he recalls. ‘I played in a game before an U15 international and we won 1-0. Though I have never played there as a professional so the fact the final is at Wembley is massive.’

The fans stood by the team when they were needed and now we have 44,000 of them going to Wembley. This should be a magnificent day out for us and I know we will roar Kelvin and the boys home in our best festive manner.
