Kelvin Davis has been appointed the new club captain following Michael Svensson’s new backroom staff position.

New head coach Mark Wotte chose Svensson to be his new assistant coach, and the Swede nominated Kelvin Davis to be the new club captain: ‘Mark Wotte has asked me to focus on my new position alongside him on the touchline so I have passed on the baton to Kelvin Davis for the rest of the season and I’m sure he will do a great job.’

Svensson is doing undergoing his rehabilitation programme and the 33 year old has not ruled himself out of another comeback. Nonetheless, the commanding centre back explained how he is taking his new role very seriously: ‘Mark Wotte has asked me to focus on my new position alongside him on the touchline so I have passed on the baton to Kelvin Davis for the rest of the season and I’m sure he will do a great job.’

Kelvin Davis has arguably been player of the season for the Saints and has declared his excitement about being named club captain: ‘Michael has been a fantastic person to play behind and will now be even more involved as a coach. I have already been wearing the armband whilst he has been out though injury, but it is a great honour to be officially appointed as Club captain, following in the footsteps of some fantastic players down the years.’
