Southampton manager Mark Hughes has now held his pre-game press conference ahead of Thursday evening’s Premier League clash with Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

I’m sure more of his words from the press meet and greet will be online soon as he assesses the kind of game he’s expecting against former Saints manager Claude Puel, but he has confirmed that both Mario Lemina and Sofiane Boufal will be missing for the tie.

Speaking to saintsfc he explained.

“We’ve got a couple of omissions – Mario Lemina has got an issue with his back, which is affecting his hamstring. Sofiane Boufal is ill, but apart from that we should be ok.”

Hughes did explain that we could welcome one man back though. However, for a couple of cheeky fans in particular, they paid more attention to the photo than the words he actually used.

It made me smile anyway!

“Steven Davis is back in the group. He hasn’t trained a great deal, but he’s trained the last couple of days, so he’ll be travelling.”

I wouldn’t have thought that Davis would be in the starting line up for the game with Hughes referencing his lack of training, but seeing him on the bench and having the skipper at least capable of playing some kind of part in the game could be a boost for the group as we go in search of a much-needed victory.

Having been out since mid-February you’d expect him to need at least another week of solid training before he was back to his influential best though. With Southampton at crunch point already this season, any small boost remains a boost and we need as many of them as we can get.
