It was being reported yesterday that Denmark international defender Jannik Vestergaard was set to undergo a medical at Southampton after we had agreed a fee of around £18million for his services with Borussia Monchengladbach.
The 25-year-old travelled to the World Cup in Russia this summer but did not feature for his country in their games and he had featured on the rumour mill for a bit when it came to potential interest from St Mary’s Stadium.
According to Sky Sports he will now soon be with us once the formalities are completed.
He made 32 appearances in the Bundesliga last season as Monchengladbach finished ninth in the division and he has spent his entire career in Germany, counting Werder Bremen and Hoffenheim as his former clubs.
It’s expected he will quickly become our third capture of the summer following on from Mohamed Elyounoussi and Stewart Armstrong as personal terms are not expected to pose a problem.
