Second half substitute and fellow goalscorer on the day, Dusan Tadic, has said that James Ward-Prowse’s early free kick in the game against West Bromwich Albion was absolutely key on Saturday for Southampton.

Having taken the lead, and then JWP scoring from the penalty spot to make the game more comfortable, Tadic’s own introduction saw us kill the game off with the third goal, but in his own post game interviews as carried by saintsfc Tadic was clear that without the first goal the match would’ve bee more difficult as Albion wouldn’t have had to chase the match for so long.

Them coming further forward instead of sitting back meant we could exploit the space, and ultimately we did that to good effect in the remainder of the game.

‘It was a very good win and an important one for us. We know that West Bromwich is a strong team and a compact team, but we had good opening to the game with a brilliant free-kick from Prowsey and, after that, it was more easy. The first goal is the most important one and then afterwards we had a little bit more space so then it was more easy to play against them because they needed to take more risks.’

Speaking more about his own goal on the day, and the one that killed the match off in many ways, Tadic went on to credit the delivery of Steven Davis.

‘It was a good ball from Davis. In the team everyone could show his qualities in the last 30 minutes because there was much more space than in the beginning of the game to create something. You can see this is really important. Defensively it was important that they didn`t create too many things and in the end we had more of the space to create.’

With our first back to back wins since November back under our belt, Tadic went on to say that everything looks a little bit healthier now after the last week, but the players always remained confident that things would again turn for us despite the run of form we were on.

‘I think also before we played some good games and we were unlucky not to win some games but now, finally, we have a good performance and a result to match and we are really happy about that.’
