Nigel Adkins has said the overall aim for Southampton is world domination and European qualification.

Speaking to breakingnews the manager confirmed that he wasn’t just focusing on Premiership survival, he wants to see us grow into the league and be challenging at the very top of it, and whilst he doesn’t naturally expect that this season, he doesn’t see why it still can’t be an aim.

‘It’s a very positive future ahead. Nicola Cortese set the dream out and the vision to me to be in the Premier League within five years, since he has been here, they’ve done it in three with back to back promotions and we’re very, very ambitious. What we’ve got to do is make sure we’re ambitious in the Premier League and not just go there and think ‘oh well if we can just get enough points to stay up then that will be successful’. We’ve got to drive on, strive to be the best and Europe is obviously the goal. You have to be realistic, but you’ve got to reach for the top.’

I’d very much doubt we’ll see those ambitions coming true for a couple of seasons yet, but with further growth and sensible investment in the playing staff it most certainly should be the overall aim of the club.
