Everton versus Southampton sees the latter trying to defy the statistical analysis of almost total Everton dominance. This will be an extremely tough ask for the Saints but defy the odds they must if they are to gain anything from the game.
Knowing that this is going to be a tremendously hard physical match, we have to hope that our team does not collect many yellow cards or worse red ones. Which leads us to the appointed matchday officials.
The referee appointed for this match is Mr Jonathan Moss. Moss was born in Sunderland in 1970 but now lives in West Yorkshire. He has a record of issuing a rough average of three-plus yellow cards per match.
The two assistant referees are Mr Eddie Smart and Mr Constantine Hatzidakis. Mr Smart was at the centre of two controversial decisions in a Liverpool v Tottenham Hotspur match. He awarded Spurs two contentious penalty decisions in that tie, but later discussions and replays showed that the decisions were correctly given. The other assistant referee Mr Constantine Hatzidakis has appeared in 35 Premier League matches to date this season.
The 4th official is Mr Lee Mason. Mason is another referee capable of issuing plenty of yellow cards when necessary.
So Southampton’s players know that though this will be a hard match but they must control themselves so that they stay free of receiving any cards.
A tough ask but again I trust our side to earn something from this game to keep our hopes of survival alive.
