Southampton could face further punishment from the Football authorities following Saturday’s pitch invasion.

The final whistle in the 2-2 draw with Burnley sparked ugly scenes at St. Mary’s with hundreds of Saints fans invading the pitch to confront the travelling fans.

The Saints were handed a ten point penalty on Thursday, and emotions were high at St. Mary’s, resulting in angered fans.

Joint administrator Mark Fry said: ‘Our main concern at the moment has to be the appeal.

‘As far as the pitch invasion is concerned, I am not condoning it but after the announcement on Thursday of the points deduction, emotions were bound to be running high.

‘I just hope they don’t punish us for that as well because the club has to find a buyer and any further threat of punishment will not help us to do that.’

Southampton are just weeks away from going out of business if they cannot find a buyer for the Hampshire club, and the ugly end to Saturday’s game could not have helped the advertisement of the club.
