FEBRUARY FOLLY?

While the Directors exhort us to commit to next season’s tickets under their innovative March Madness programme, the football club Chairman and leading shareholder commits the folly of resigning.

Many of us put our trust in him when he rescued the club from the Dark Ages of the previous incumbent, but has he re-paid that trust?

His resignation appears to be folly when you look at the official statement issued, citing his inability to attract new investment, but this is no drop-dead failure to many of us.

We understand the difficulties involved and, in any event, Saints are at least making a good effort at being promoted. If Saints do go up they will get a nice windfall and, worse case, if they don’t go up, the regrettable but inevitable sale of Gareth Bale will also net a tidy sum. I think most fans recognise this and are prepared to accept his departure.

Unfortunately, the fans are in the dark on the real machinations in the Boardroom. It is to be hoped that what has happened has been amicable and a team effort and not as a result of any January Judas. We should know within the next few days.
