FIFA Backtracking Over Technology?

Yesyerday we were all jumping on fIFA’s back over the lack of technology to help under fire referees.

Today Sepp Blatter has issued an apology to the England FA for the goal that, though good, never was.

He is reported as saying this morning, ‘I have expressed to them apologies and I understand they are not happy and that people are criticising.’

He also went on to say that FIFA would look into the opposition of this equipment at it’s July meeting.

Fifa has opposed this technology consistantly even though it could dispel doubts over several incidents quickly and safely.

Carlos Tevez scored from a blatantly offside position in the Mexico v Afghanistan game and Frank Lampard had his goal disallowed even though clearing the goal line by a good distance.

Whilst it may only be the goal line technology that is being looked into it is a big step forward for them to at least appreciate that it may be needed.

The problem now as against when tv first covered football, is that our technology is so good. During a match we have seen again and again errors highlighted speedily by the tv companies.

Often before a ball has been kicked after the incident. This means in my book, two things.

One, the technology is so advanced now that it takes milliseconds to show whether the decision is one thing or another.

Two, The referees will make less mistakes which will help keep tempers under control and players or teams feeling cheated.

If we have ways to keep the game honest then we should use them.

For me, a rash or deliberately bad tackle should always receive the punishment it deserves.

Blatant cheating will also have to be cut back as players get caught more and more often.

It would also make appealing against incorrect decisions more scarce as less mistakes would be made.

Overall this is good news. Some may disagree but I feel it will be good if things can be brought to a head and speeded up.

We need this technology and preferably need it now.
