“For 60 Minutes It Was Okay” – Hasenhuttl Frustrated As Southampton Fall To Defeat

|

So, Southampton’s big Premier League kickoff against Burnley at Turf Moor finally arrived as we began the new campaign under manager Ralph Hasenhuttl with far more optimism around St Mary’s Stadium compared to this time last year.

Much to the delight of many fans, Che Adams and Danny Ings both took to the pitch at the same time given the Austrian’s first XI, but we knew Burnley would be tough under Sean Dyche.

After a goalless first half, despite the game being largely evenly mixed, Burnley simply made the most of their chances and in the second period they did what we couldn’t, and found the back of the net. Ashley Barnes helped himself to a quick brace on the day, and Johann Berg Gudmundsson finished it off at 3-0.

Hasenhuttl won’t be happy with the defending, but with a bit more sharpness, I think the game could’ve been a lot different.

Onto the next one now.

Speaking to the media following the full time whistle in our first game of the year, our gaffer told the press.
