It has been claimed this week that Southampton are interested in former Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko, but we face competition from Crystal Palace and Cardiff City for his services – a quiet October international break sees Steven Davis linked with a return to Rangers for about the 100th time so far this season as well.

Dealing with the Dzeko rumours, it seems to have been kick-started by Mirror on Monday and then spread like wildfire across the internet.

Make of it what you will, but the 32-year-old Roma striker is believed to want a return to England before he hangs up his boots and in fairness, he does indicate as much in the quotes they pick out from him from a recent interview.

We are now apparently tracking him as a partner for Danny Ings given our issues with scoring when in front of the net.

He’d be far from a bad signing I think given what I remember of him at Manchester City, but even if there’s truth to his quotes, it reads more as putting out the feelers more than anything.

In Davis news, there is absolutely nothing new in the Daily Record’s report that I haven’t covered before and Davis is now linked with Rangers at least once a month it seems as we near the January window.

Whether it’s just easy content for the media in quieter times or such a move is being kept in the public eye for a reason is open for debate and January isn’t that far off so we should soon know. If his game time doesn’t improve, a move of some kind is probably guaranteed.
