With news that Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl seems open to the idea of moving striker Manolo Gabbiadini on this January transfer window, reports abroad are suggesting that he’ll try and tempt former Watford striker Odion Ighalo back to the Premier League.

According to reports in the Turkish media this week, we are supposedly taking a close look at the 29-year-old Changchun Yatai player but we will face competition from Turkish side Fenerbahce.

Most fans will remember Ighalo well, during his stay at Watford, he made 78 starting appearances across all competitions, with an additional 22 showings from the substitutes bench and helping them from the Championship into the Premier League he scored 39 goals.

His final season at Vicarage Road wasn’t a great success, so add that to the Turkish press link Fenerbahce and Galatasaray to every player in existence, usually with the phrase ‘loan deal’ with struggling finances…I don’t imagine for a second there is a shred of truth to this.

With his top-flight struggles from what I remember, I also see no reason why we’d have any interest anyway as he seems happy taking the Chinese Super League money as opposed to really testing himself – although maybe my lack of knowledge of their league does them, and him, a disservice?
