Unless you’ve been living under a rock since last August, every Southampton fan should be more than aware of the rumour mill speculation suggesting that midfielder Steven Davis was set for a return to Ibrox and former club Rangers.
In fact, the speculation has come on almost a weekly basis and it gets a boost every international break when news gets quieter, but at least this time around it has resurfaced with a slight update.
The Belfast Telegraph reported yesterday that Rangers did continue to have an interest in the 33-year-old Northern Ireland international, but their initial gambit in January would in fact be a loan move for the remainder of the 2018/19 campaign.
Reports so far have implied a permanent deal for a nominal fee given he’s not overly in manager Mark Hughes plans, or potentially a contract termination enabling him to make the move as a free agent.
It’s certainly a rumour that’s not going away and as Davis continues to struggle for game time it certainly won’t be going anywhere soon and does very much look like something will happen in the next transfer window.
