Southampton manager Mark Hughes saw his side take victory on Saturday in our pre-season friendly with Dijon FOC as we closed out our training camp in France.

Goals from Shane Long and Manolo Gabbiadini gave us the victory against our Ligue 1 opposition and our Welshman will certainly believe a positive week was brought to a close in the right way given the overall performance and the manner of the victory,

Summer signing Jannik Vestergaard was handed a full non-competitive debut in the game in Divonne-les-Bains and he took the opportunity to shuffle the pack following the Derby County clash with seven changes made.

Jan Bednarek also made his first appearance of the summer having now returned to training following an extended break owing to his World Cup duty out in Russia with Poland.

Yellows – Rosier.

Unused subs:

Goals – Long (27), Gabbiadini (46).

Hughes told saintsfc that he felt the performance had been a marked improvement from the previous 3-0 defeat.

“I was pleased. I think it’s always important after having such a good training camp, which we’ve had, that you finish off in the correct way, and I thought we did that. It was a marked improvement on where we were at last weekend. I think the old adage a week’s a long time in football applies, and the amount of work we’ve done this week obviously showed in our performance.”
