James Ward-Prowse’s winner against Watford will be a goal that will stick with Southampton fans for years to come, and former manager Nigel Adkins was quick to praise his former player.

The ex-Southampton manager was the man who handed Ward-Prowse his first start in the Saints first-team as stats from Transfermarkt show, with Adkins giving the then-teenager his debut in the Premier League in the 2012/13 Premier League season.
Adkins has remained a fan favourite at St. Mary’s since being the manager to take Southampton from League One to a Premier League stable, and his praising message to Ward-Prowse was met with a great reception from Saints supporters on social media.
Here’s what Southampton fans had to say about Adkins’ post about Ward-Prowse on Twitter, with lots of supporters praising their former manager for handing the now 25-year-old midfielder the chance to develop into a key first-team player…

Ward-Prowse will be aiming to keep up this form in mid-week when Norwich City become the latest relegation-threatened side to take on the Saints on the south coast.
