With Southampton’s proud record of developing strong young talent through our Academy setup, it’s something that Austrian manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has already begun tapping into following his arrival at Staplewood, especially given the emergence last season of Yan Valery.
Valery is far from alone when you consider the faith that Hasenhuttl has shown in Michael Obafemi to mention another, but at the weekend, our Under 23 side under the charge of Radhi Jaidi, kicked off their own campaign and fighting back from behind against Manchester City, one man certainly stood out to fans as they followed the game on social media.
Dan N’Lundulu is a new name for me, but I really should pay more attention to the Under 23s, and he was key to us taking a 4-3 victory. After goals from Kornelius Hansen and Tom O’Connor, N’Lundulu got himself on the scoresheet to tie the game up, and then the 20-year-old secured a brace in the 93rd minute.
The young lad has done himself no harm at all starting the season in that fashion, and given Hasenhuttl will reward youngsters when they deserve their shot, if he keeps that kind of form up, you do have to wonder if we might see him on the bench in the early rounds of the domestic Cups this year.
That second is a belter.
Give this man a chance in the first team. Absolutely incredible prospect.
