It is rare that backroom staff moves generate this much commotion amongst supporters, but Southampton fans are delighted that one man is seemingly leaving the club.

The Southern Daily Echo report that the Saints’ director of football operations, Ross Wilson, is expected to join Scottish giants Rangers soon after nearly four years with the south coast side.

The report goes on to say that Steve Gerrard’s side are highly keen on bringing in Wilson north of the border, and with Southampton’s big-money signings in recent years being somewhat underwhelming, it is understandable as to why the club are willing to allow their director of football operations go.

And fans were delighted with the news, with plenty of supporters taking to social media to praise the club for allowing Wilson to move on and for the man himself to seemingly accept the job being offered at Rangers.

Here’s what some Saints supporters had to say on Twitter about the impending departure of Wilson…

The likely departure has gone down well with Southampton fans…

The figure to succeed Wilson at Southampton will have a big job on his hands, with Ralph Hasenhuttl likely to be reliant on the next Director of Football at the club.
